Dr. Hala Hany El-Said
Head of Biochemistry Department
Biography
Prof. Hala El-Said is a Professor of Medical Biochemistry with more than three decades of experience in medical education, scientific research, and academic administration. She currently serves as Head of the Biochemistry Department, School of Medicine, Memphis University. She is committed to advancing biochemistry education and promoting the integration of molecular diagnostic techniques into medical training and research. Prof. El-Said obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (M.B.B.Ch.) from Cairo University in 1989, followed by a Master’s degree in Medical Biochemistry in 1994 and a Doctorate in Molecular Biology in 1997 from Menoufia University. Her doctoral reflected her early and sustained interest in applying molecular biology techniques to the diagnosis and understanding of diseases. Her academic career began at the National Liver Institute, Menoufia University, where she progressed through all academic ranks from Demonstrator to Professor. She served as Head of the Department of Clinical Biochemistry and Molecular Diagnostics from 2008 to 2024, contributing to the development of laboratory infrastructure, academic programs, and research initiatives. Prof. El-Said has extensive teaching experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She supervised over fifty Master’s and MD theses and participated in biochemistry curriculum development at the National Liver Institute. She has also served as an external examiner and scientific referee for postgraduate theses and research publications across several universities. She participated in the Egyptian Universities Promotion Committee (EUPC), where she served as Secretary of the Committee for the Promotion of Assistant Professors and Professors of Medical Biochemistry for three consecutive cycles (2016–2025). Prof. El-Said authored over 30 research articles throughout the past decade in reputable scientific journals. Her research focuses on molecular diagnostics, with a special emphasis on cancer and liver diseases.
