Dr. Ahmed Safaan

Biography

Dr. Ahmed Mohamed El Sayed Saafan is a Professor of Urology at the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University, and currently serves as the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Memphis Education Group University. He earned his MBBCh degree with honors from Ain Shams University in 1995, followed by a Master’s degree in Urology in 2001 and a Doctorate in Urology in 2008.

Professor Saafan has held several distinguished academic, clinical, and administrative positions throughout his career. He served as an Assistant Professor of Urology at Aswan University before becoming a Professor of Urology at Ain Shams University in 2022. He also held major healthcare leadership roles, including Deputy Director of El-Demerdash Hospital, Supervisor of Aswan University Hospitals, and Head of the Central Administration for Curative Medicine at the Egyptian Ministry of Health.

In addition to his academic leadership, Professor Saafan currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Rabaa Hospital Group, Vice Chairman of the Islamic Medical Association, Vice Chairman of Al-Khulafaa Al-Rashideen Association, and Chairman of Ibn Al-Nafis Association – Taiba Hospital in Tanta, overseeing a total of 33 hospitals.

Internationally recognized for his expertise in vesicovaginal fistula management, Professor Saafan is a global trainer and speaker for the International Continence Society and a member of its Global Vesicovaginal Fistula Committee. He has led specialized medical missions across 22 African countries in collaboration with the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Health, and the United Nations.

His scientific contributions include international publications, innovative surgical techniques, and participation in authoring a global reference book on vesicovaginal fistula management.
